How to Become a Person of Action in life

There’s an enduring axiom of success that says, “The Universe rewards action, not thought.” Yet as simple as this principle seems, it’s surprising how many people get bogged down in the analyzing, planning, and organizing stages when what they really need to do is simply take action.

I’ve compiled 10 tips that will help you take action in your life to become a successful person:

1. Set a limited time-line for planning before acting out

Naturally, you can’t be action-oriented if you don’t know what to do. For this, planning is important. Time management is also valuable too. Therefore, set a limited timeline for planning. Jot down the important things you want to remind yourself before action so that at least you know where you are going. Don’t over plan or overthink. It should be more of brainstorming for you.

2. Establish your goals and put together a plan to reach them

Studies show that only 3 percent of the population write down their goals and structure their lives to achieve them. This is surprising because it can make the difference between a life of constant struggle and one filled with abundance.

3. Failure shouldn’t dishearten you

Failure is part of life. If you don’t fail, you can never taste success. You may break down many times when failure runs over you, but never give up on yourself. Learn from the mistakes and try not to repeat them again. Instead of stopping a child from climbing a tree, encourage them to do it. If they fall, they’ll be more careful next time and will continue to do so until they are successful. Be that child.

4. See yourself for who you are.

Your journey to becoming a better person starts with understanding who you are at your core. This is about becoming more in tune with your deeper self, so you recognize what riles you up, what makes you happy or sad. How do you deal with your emotions? How do you react when life goes astray?

Take stock of your strengths but also of your weaknesses. What are your negative qualities? What areas do you excel in? What areas do you need to work on in your personal growth and development? When we truly understand ourselves, we can make a conscious effort to improve ourselves and communicate better with others.

5. Discipline yourself

A person who leads a disciplined life is more action-oriented than those who lazy around. Being lethargic to work is a deadly weapon. You are not only killing valuable time, you are also wasting opportunities that may come your way if you maintain discipline. Set tasks for yourself and complete them accordingly. Organize your works.

6. Reward yourself

If you successfully complete an assigned project on time, reward yourself. Be it a treat or some shopping, encourage yourself that if you cut down on procrastinating and work harder, you will be rewarded. But, if you complete a task at the eleventh hour, refrain from celebrating. This will transmit a message to your brain to be more action-oriented.

7. Being curious and impatient

If you want to be action-oriented, you have to be the curious cat. Also, being impatient is just fine. If you are curious and impatient to know the outcome, they will push you to be more active. For this, you need to sharpen your curiosity and urgency.

8. Picture yourself to be the person you want to be

Start from the beginning. When you set your goal, picture yourself there. If you want to start a business, visualize yourself as the chief, and slowly work it up there. If you want to be a successful musician, start from scratch, aiming for the ultimate prize that awaits you. Picturing yourself to be the person you want to be will pave the path for you to be an action-oriented individual.

9. Don’t forget to recharge, re-energise and relax

If I have a spare minute, I spend it re-energizing with some dancing, commenting on a blog by someone I admire, connecting with someone on Linked In, or giving my partner a one-minute, love-filled hug (You can check out my list of 41 things you can do to build confidence and re-energize).

Remember, you don’t want to become busy being busy. You want to be productive, and you want to take action toward your goals. But you don’t want to overdo it. I’d recommend alternating your productive spare moments with breathing and recharging.

10. Set boundaries

When you say yes to yourself and your goals, it means making a commitment to setting some supportive, smart, and exciting boundaries to create space for action.

Know what you want, know how far you want to go, how much time you are willing to put in, know what you are willing to sacrifice (and not sacrifice). When it comes to prioritizing your goals, you are in charge. Make sure you know your limits.
